High School Announcements
Schedule Change

To Parents/Guardians of the Students of Deptford High School:

On Tuesday, May 21st and Wednesday, May 22nd, students currently taking Biology will be administered the Biology (EOC) Test. The Biology (EOC) Test is mandated by the State of New Jersey and is required of all students taking a Biology course. While this test is being given, students who are testing are to report to their classrooms by 7:25 a.m. Regular school bus schedules will be operational. Testing location assignments will be posted throughout the school as well as provided by all teachers.

On May 21st, May 22nd, and May 23rd students who are not testing are to report to their bus stop three (3) hours later than regular pick up time, unless they are scheduled for the MAP Assessment Test (see below). School for these students will begin at 10:25 a.m.

MAP Testing will be administered on Tuesday, May 21st, Wednesday, May 22nd, and Thursday, May 23rd from 7:25 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. All 9th and 10th grade students are required to take this assessment and will be assigned on one of the three days. The location and day will be discussed with them in their math and ELA classes prior to the assessment along with notifications posted outside the IMC (Instructional Media Center) and the attendance office.

If Students in grades 9 and 10 are currently taking a biology course, they will take the NJ Biology End of Course Test on Tuesday, May 21st and Wednesday, May 22nd. Their MAP assessment will be administered to them on Thursday, May 23rd.

Any student not reporting for MAP testing and/or Biology on their scheduled day will be marked as an unexcused absence for the entire day, if they show up at 10:15 for school. All students missing MAP testing will be required to make up their math and ELA assessment.

Special note: This assessment is very important and scores below the proficient mark will identify those students in need of remediation. There is no time limit on this assessment and all students are encouraged to take their time when completing their MAP assessment.

Please feel free to call the Guidance Office at 232-2713, extension 2508, if you have any questions.

                                                                        Sincerely,

                                                                        Mark Petito

MUSIC NEWS!
 "Deptford Wins National Music Award":
In mid March, it was announced by the NAMM (National Association of Music Merchants) Foundation that the Deptford Township School District was selected as a recipient of its "Best Communities in Music Education" award. Earlier in the year, school districts that wished to apply for the award had to fill out a lengthy questionnaire involving statistics about all facets of the music and educational program in their district. Over 2000 districts nation wide applied for this award and after an extensive review process, Deptford was selected along with 300 other districts for this prestigious honor. Congratulations to the District Music Department, its teachers, and its students for this great accomplishment.
ATTENTION PLEASE!!!

HIGH SCHOOL ATTENDANCE POLICY HIGHLIGHTS

Absenteeism

On a regular session day a student must attend school for six (6) full class periods to be counted present and four (4) periods to be counted for a half-day. On a half session day a student must attend all periods. GCIT shared-time students are marked absent a full day if they do not attend class at the high school even though they attend at GCIT.

Students who miss more than 15 days regardless of the reason unless instructed by a doctor to not attend will be required to make up lost instructional time through the Summer Attendance Recovery Program.

Upon returning to school, a student must submit to the Attendance Office a note/verification of the absence within three (3) days of student attendance.

Excluded in the count for 15 days unless instructed by a doctor not to attend: Educational Accommodation Program, External Suspension, Homebound Instruction, Field Trip and death in the immediate family.
 Absence Notes

If no note is submitted within three days after the students' return to school, the absence is designated UNEXCUSED.

Excessive Absences

Students who are under 16 years of age and have ten (10) unverified absences will have a complaint filed with the Deptford Municipal Count for violation of 18A:38-31. Students who are 16 years of age or older and have
fifteen (15) unverified days will be dropped from the rolls.

Lateness to/and Early Release from School

Every four (4) days late to and/or early release from school will equal one (1) day of absence.

Cutting Assigned Periods

Students are deemed cutting when they do not report to the class or location they are assigned. This includes lunch and study hall. Students will receive a loss of a day's attendance, no academic credit and disciplinary action for cutting one or more periods that day.

Course Credits and Completion Program

Students will be required to complete one day in Summer Attendance Recovery for each absence over 15 days. Note that every 4th lateness and/or early release from school counts as another day of absence. The Summer Attendance Recovery Program will be held on 5 days after the close of school.

All days will be assigned in the summer of the school year in which the absences occur. Students who fail to make-up the days in the assigned summer time will not receive credit for any courses taken. It will be necessary to repeat the school year. Therefore, 21 days out without proper documentation will result in repeating the school year.

Students under the age of 16 missing 24 unexcused days in a school year will not receive credit for any courses. It will be necessary for the student to repeat the school year. Make-up time in the Summer Attendance Recovery Program does not alter the 24 day limit.
